Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has confirmed the approval of wage award for workers in the state. The decision, announced during the state’s Executive Council meeting in Minna, aims to ease the financial burdens faced by civil servants.
Following an appeal by President Bola Tinubu for states to prioritize wage increases, Governor Bago swiftly acted, approving a substantial raise of N20,000 for every civil servant in the state.
President Tinubu, during his recent visit to Minna, stressed the importance of such measures in mitigating economic challenges and providing relief to the populace.
“Tinubu emphasized the importance of adopting the wage award by all states, stating, ‘If all of you, the sub-nationals have been paying the wages award, pending the determination of the new salary wage… Let all the states start paying the wages award,'” reported Governor Bago during the announcement.
Governor Bago reaffirmed the commitment to promptly commence payments, assuring workers that the funds would be disbursed without delay. “The payment would be made unfailingly on Wednesday,” stated Governor Bago, emphasizing the government’s dedication to supporting its employees during these trying times.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Bago unveiled plans to implement feeding programs across various wards during Ramadan, aiming to alleviate hunger and support vulnerable communities. Furthermore, the distribution of 120 trucks of grains as palliatives underscores the government’s efforts to address the plight of its citizens, particularly those most impacted by economic hardships.
“The payment would be made unfailing on Wednesday and workers would begin to receive alerts to this effect,” reassured Governor Bago during the Executive Council meeting, highlighting the government’s proactive stance in providing immediate relief to its residents.
