The Nigeria Super Eagles, on Monday, secured their spot in the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations with a close victory against Guinea-Bissau.
The deciding moment came in the first half when a cross entered the Guinea-Bissau box, and defender Opa Sangante accidentally directed it into his own goal.
Throughout the game, both teams had their opportunities, with Nigeria’s Moses Simon coming close early in the second half, only to be denied by a remarkable save from Guinea-Bissau’s goalkeeper, Jonas Mendes.
Nigeria continued pressing, and though Victor Osimhen found the net, it was disallowed by the referee.
Nigeria’s defense, led by Kenneth Omeruo, played a crucial role in maintaining their lead. Omeruo’s solid tackles, aerial prowess, and precise passing contributed to Nigeria’s defensive strength. Calvin Bassey also stood out alongside him.
As Nigeria finishes second in Group A, they will face the runner-up from Group C in the next round. Guinea-Bissau, finishing at the bottom of the table with zero points, exits the competition.
