The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the commencement of free train services across the country
Starting from Thursday, December 21, 2023, until Thursday, January 4, 2024, commuters can enjoy cost-free train rides. This decision swiftly follows the federal government’s announcement of a 50 percent reduction in transportation expenses, aimed at facilitating travel for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to a statement from the NRC shared with Politics Nigeria, passengers are urged to secure their free tickets exclusively through online e-ticketing platforms. It’s important to note that tickets will not be issued at any of the corporation’s train stations, emphasizing the necessity of obtaining a ticket before boarding.
The NRC encourages passengers to maintain orderliness, adhere to the guidance of security personnel, and follow the established boarding instructions both at the station and on board the trains.
The statement reads: “Passengers are advised to obtain their free tickets via the online e-ticketing platforms only.
“Tickets will not be issued at any of the corporation’s train stations. Please note that no commuter will be allowed to board the train without a ticket.
“We enjoin commuters to be orderly, obey security personnel and the laid down boarding instructions of the NRC and those of its officials while at the station and on board the trains.
“We wish all our esteemed customers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.”
