Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly Alabo, has tendered his resignation, joining the growing wave of departures within the state government.
This development closely follows the resignation of Special Projects Commissioner, Chief Emeka Woke, adding fuel to the ongoing discord between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Dr. George-Kelly’s departure was preceded by a mysterious message on Facebook, where he implored people to acknowledge the contributions of their fathers, hinting at an underlying tension.
The wave of resignations also includes Attorney General Zachaus Adango, who attributed his exit to personal reasons.
The strained relationship between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike has not only triggered the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but has also led to the demolition of the state legislative chamber.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, justified the demolition, citing safety concerns after an explosion and fire incident. Prior to this, four lawmakers, loyal to Governor Fubara, conducted a plenary session at the Government House, Port Harcourt, approving the state budget amidst the escalating political crisis.
