Comedian Chris Rock has premiered his latest stand-up special, Selective Outrage, on Netflix, where he made several jokes about the incident involving actor Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars gala.
During the performance, Rock expressed his admiration for Smith, whom he has rooted for his entire life, before quipping about watching Smith get “whupped” in his latest movie, Emancipation.
“I love Will Smith, my whole life,” Rock said.
“I have rooted for Will Smith my whole life … now I watch Emancipation just to see him get whipped,”
The comedian also poked fun at Smith’s choice to hit someone smaller, whom he knew he could beat, despite frequently playing action heroes on screen.
“It still hurts! I got ‘Summertime’ ringin’ in my ear!” Rock said.
Furthermore, Rock revealed that many people have questioned why he did not retaliate when Smith hit him in the face after making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head caused by alopecia. Rock’s response was that his parents taught him not to engage in fights in front of white people.
“Because I got parents. You know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of White people,” Rock said.
Smith subsequently apologized for his behavior, and Rock declined to press charges against him, though Smith was banned from attending the Oscars ceremony for ten years.
Chris Rock’s latest stand-up special is available to stream on Netflix now, featuring his signature humor and sharp wit, sure to delight fans of the comedian.
