Prominent Niger Delta leader Pa Edwin Clark has called out the judiciary on some of the irregularities going on in the arm of government.
Speaking on Channel’s TV “Inside Sources”, he called for a comprehensive and unbiased strategy in combating corruption, he disclosed that he had penned an open letter to the Chief Justice of the Federation, urging the establishment of a committee to investigate and reorganize the judiciary promptly.
“Today the judiciary is filled up with children of justices, stepdaughters, stepchildren, whereas the most important qualified Nigerians who should be in the judiciary are left out”.
“Justices of the Supreme Court will come to a stage whereby they criticize their boss, their fellow Chief Justice”.
Pa Clark underlined the urgency of reorganizing the judiciary, a move he believes would contribute significantly to addressing corruption at its roots.
Addressing the situation in the Niger Delta, Pa Edwin voiced his discontent with the lack of progress and environmental justice in the region, despite its significant contributions to the national economy through oil and gas production.
He further lamented the marginalization of Niger Delta people from the oil sector’s decision-making processes, citing the absence of Niger Deltans in the executive arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“Delta State which today is the leading oil-producing state, Bayelsa State another oil-producing state, they have no member.”
“People who produce oil are excluded from everything, from the operations of the oil. Their children are not employed.”
“The issue is not what our people deal with. Most of our governors are corrupt. They utilize this money for themselves.
“Our governors, most of them derailed due to corruption. That is what the question asks. Corruption is a cankerworm that is eating everything in our country
Pa Clark emphasized his call for a holistic and impartial approach in the fight against corruption, as he reiterated the former’s President speech that if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us.
