The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, has disclosed that Nigeria’s current infrastructural gap is threatening the national economy.Â
Prof. Pantami who was represented by the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abdullahi Abdullazeez, made the disclosure while presenting his keynote address at the ongoing National Engineering conference and Exhibition in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said: “Seven major sectors are prioritized for infrastructural development in Nigeria. There are Energy, Transport, Water, Agriculture, Mining, Housing, Social Infrastructure, Vital Registration on security, information and Communication Technology.”
According to the theme of this year’s conference, “Advancing the frontiers of Communication and Digital Economy” is timely targeted at ensuring that the economy remains the central focus of the nation’s initiatives.
He stressed that the focus is to ensure that the digital sector drives all the other sectors of the economy.
“It is important to synergise to develop the digital economy for global competitiveness and we must create a coordinator approach towards achieving the targets,” he said.
