Deputy governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu on Tuesday said he God instructed him to queue behind Governor Godwin Obaseki during his battle with his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the build-up to the 2020 governorship election in Edo state.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ which was monitored by QUEST TIMES, Shaibu who has formally declared his ambition to run in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said his name will be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the party.
His words “I can assure you that I will secure the ticket and my name and the party will be on the ballot. That I can tell you confidently. Nothing will happen because my name will be there. My name will be sent to INEC and I will be the candidate of the party”.
“I don’t do things without checking. I have gone round, I have consulted and I have been assured. The certain category of people I have reached are not people that will deceive me”.
Recalling events that played out in 2020 during the height of the Obaseki-Oshiomhole political struggle, Shaibu who is an ally of Oshiomhole said he sought the face of God for direction and God instructed him to support Obaseki in order to join hands together in putting an end to godfatherism in Edo state.
“I have prayed and fasted and I have seen all the signs. Before I go into all elections, I have my special session with God”.
“When the crisis between Obaseki and Oshiomhole started, I went to God and I asked for direction. And God gave me direction that look, you must be principled and you must follow Obaseki”.
“We have said no to godfatherism in Edo state. I (God) have blessed that there won’t be godfatherism in Edo state again. So, you must support your boss whether he wins or nor. But I can assure you my son that he wil win. I followed God’s direction and despite all the turbulence, we won”.
