Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has decided to move the office of his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, to a new location outside the Government House in Benin, the state’s capital.
This relocation has raised eyebrows and speculation, as it may be linked to the ongoing tension between the governor and his deputy, possibly related to the upcoming governorship election.
The newly designated office was previously occupied by the Edo State Public Procurement Office and is now situated at 7 Dennis Osadebey Avenue, in close proximity to the Government House.
A signboard that reads ‘Office of the Deputy Governor’ has been placed at the entrance of this building, originally inaugurated by former governor Adams Oshiomhole on December 16, 2014.
In response to these developments, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, confirmed the relocation of the deputy governor’s office, stating, “If there is a government signboard saying so, then it must be so.”
