Incumbent Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has admitted that he’s been a monumental failure as a government official.
He stated that he could not solve several challenges he ought to have solved, despite being the longest serving minister of education in recent times.
The minister highlighted that from out-of-school children which has increased during his time in office, to challenges of ASUU and other challenges bedeviling the tertiary education system, he could not provide the needed solutions.
The minister who spoke at the 66th National Council on Education (NCE) in Abuja, on Thursday, also accused the states ministries of education of adding to the factors that aided his failure as a minister.
Adamu also called for the establishment of two Ministries of education–ministry of basic education and ministry of higher education– while demanding the establishment of Federal Ministry of Skill and Entrepreneurship to address the challenges facing the youths.
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had on Thursday reportedly paid members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) half salary for October.
The National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said the union will meet soon to take appropriate steps regarding the development.
He stated this during the night chat with newsmen.
Adamu has been Nigeria’s education minister since President Buhari won a first term in office in 2015.
