A former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, and five other Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have written to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami over the rumoured attempt to arrest the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a jointly signed letter with Oba Maduabuchi, Emeka Ozoani, M.M Nurudeen, Abdul Mohammed and Dr. Emeka Obegolu under the Incorporated Trustees of Forum for Accountability and Good Leadership, the lawyers warned against any hasty attempts to arrest the CBN governor.
They also cautioned the DSS against disrespecting court orders which prevents it from arresting Emefiele, over allegations of terrorism financing and economic crimes.
They condemned moves by the DSS to still proceed and sidetrack and disobey the court decisions by unduly and unlawfully interfering with Emefiele’s fundamental rights.
The senior advocates stated these in a letter dated 6th January, titled “Emefiele: Let The Rule of Law of Prevail”.
They urged the AGF to use his good office to guarantee and ensure that the DSS, and other security agencies observe the rule of law as a foundation of a democratic society by complying with court decisions.
QUEST TIMES has earlier reported that a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory stopped the DSS from arresting Emefiele in December 2022.
The DSS levied allegations bothering on “acts of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities and economic crimes of national security dimension” against Emefiele.
