Ailing Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu is set to return to Germany for the continuation of his medical treatment, QUEST TIMES can authoritatively confirm.
A senior aide to the governor who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Friday night said President Bola Tinubu is already aware of the development.
According to him, when the governor returned to Nigeria in September, he was given two months to return to Germany for medical checks in order to monitor his situation
The aide said “Aketi will be going back to Germany for medical check. He was given two months in September. He has overstayed. He will be back after the check. President Tinubu is aware of it”.
It however remains to be seen whether Akeredolu will transfer power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who has been accused of disloyalty by the Governor’s supporters.
QUEST TIMES had earlier reported that President Tinubu during an intervention meeting with the Ondo State stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had called for the status quo to remain with Akeredolu as governor, Aiyedatiwa as deputy while the House of Assembly was asked to stop impeachment moves against the deputy.
The president also moved that Akeredolu should travel abroad for a comprehensive treatment and transmit power to Aiyedatiwa to stand in for him as acting governor.
However, Akeredolu’s loyalists rejected the move, saying Aiyedatiwa cannot be trusted with power again to his actions while his principal was on sick bed in Germany.
They are calling for his impeachment or resignation so that another deputy governor who will be loyal to Akeredolu will be in charge.
