The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed nine personnel over their roles in a recent botched strike by the rank and file, Quest Times can authoritatively report.
Antecedent
Recall that some junior officers in the force had vowed to go ahead with a planned protest on March 26, 2022, a development the police described as “fake news and untrue”.
The protest was aimed at making a host of demands including a raise in salaries, improvement in working conditions and welfare for the rank and file.

Following this, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South-West, Johnson Kokumo, on Tuesday, March 22, held a meeting with police officers in Ogun State Command over the plans by some junior officers to down tools.
The police boss visited the command in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police for senior officers to look out for the junior ones over the planned March 26 protest.
A day preceding the planned strike, four policemen were reportedly arrested by the police authorities over claims that they are behind the planned industrial strike.
According to a SaharaReporters report, the four policemen were in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.
Recent development
The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba, has approved the immediate dismissal of the affected policemen, which includes two Inspectors, five Sergeants and two Constables.
The affected police personnel are:

F/No. 508282 – Sergeant Osoteku Ademola
F/No. 525839 – Police Constable Ehighamhen Favour Ebele & F/No. 528222 – Police Constable Ubong Inem.
The dismissal of the personnel as stated in the signal signed by the Commissioner of Police Provost, Force Headquarters Abuja, follows the conclusion of their orderly room trial for Offences of Confidence to wit: Planning, Organising, Coordinating Industrial Strike within the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.
Meanwhile, the Commissioners of Police in commands and formations have been ordered to warn the affected personnel accordingly, de-kit and eject them from official accommodation and facilities where applicable.
A police source who spoke to Quest Times on Tuesday evening, confirmed the development.
According to the source, the affected personnel were dismissed following their action (posting on social media about their intention to go on strike), which violates the police extant laws.
“The police should have pardoned them,” the source adds.
