The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, chose to travel outside of the country to avoid the embarrassment of his hands shaking while signing the Peace Accord.
Informed APC sources confirmed this to Quest Times yesterday as the former Lagos State Governor returned to the country after a sudden travel out to the UK just few days to the appointed date to sign the accord publicly.
His traveling at that point was deliberate on the part of Tinubu, knowing that there would be the full media glare with tonnes of press and personal cameras ready to capture the image of him struggling with signing the papers.
“Such a video would go viral and be a bonanza to his opponents to demonstrate his weakness. Remember that viral videos exist already of his shaky hands as he was reading his acceptance speech in June after winning the primaries,” an APC source recalled.
The accord under the auspices of the National Peace Committee chaired by former Head of State Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, was signed by the presidential candidates and party chairmen last week September 29, but Tinubu was absent.
There are also few other occasions where the APC flagbearer was seen with shaking and shaky hands.
Actually, his handlers stopped him from holding the microphone during public speeches using instead a hand-free mic worn around his head.
APC sources also disclosed that the flagbearer had been having shaky hands since he was even Governor in Lagos State.
According to medical doctors, shaky hands is one of the symptoms of early onset of Parkinson disease which the former Lagos Governor is said to be suffering from. Besides the view that he is said to be experiencing early onset of Parkinson, Tinubu is also a chain smoker and that is also one of the causes of shaking hands, sources say.
WebMD lists a number of reasons–about 15–why someone’s hands would be shaking. They include:
Essential Tremor
This nerve disorder is the most common reason your coffee cup won’t stay still while you hold it. It kicks in while your hands are doing something, but goes away when they’re not. There’s no clear cause, but it’s sometimes traced to a change in a gene. If your symptoms are mild, you may not need treatment. If they get in the way of everyday tasks or your job, you may need medicine, occupational therapy, or surgery.”
Parkinson’s Disease
When you have this condition, your hand shakes because brain cells that tell your muscles to move get damaged. The shaking usually starts on one hand, but over time may spread to the other. You may also move more slowly, have trouble with balance, or find that your arms and legs stiffen. The main treatment for Parkinson’s tremors is medication and sometimes surgery for better muscle control.”
