Chelsea fans expressed anger and frustration as their team suffered a 4-1 defeat against Liverpool, with two controversial penalty decisions going against them.
The Reds claimed victory and secured a five-point lead at the top of the table through goals from Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Luis Diaz.
Chelsea believed they were unjustly denied a penalty early in the game when Conor Gallagher was brought down by Virgil van Dijk before Jota’s opening goal.
Subsequently, a strong appeal for a penalty involving substitute Christopher Nkunku and Van Dijk was also dismissed, leaving Chelsea supporters dismayed.
Despite VAR checks, both penalty claims were rejected, intensifying the frustration among Chelsea fans.
Some even speculated that Jurgen Klopp’s recent retirement announcement could impact Liverpool positively in terms of on-field decisions.
The discontent wasn’t confined to Chelsea supporters alone. Former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier criticized VAR, stating that it embarrassed itself at Anfield. Fans on social media echoed the sentiment, with many expressing disbelief at the denied penalty appeals and questioning the competence of the officiating team.
Andy Rode wrote: ‘Chelsea have had two STONE WALL (not even a debate) penalties in this game looked at by VAR and not given. Something is seriously wrong here.
Chelsea Twitter fan page said: ‘Goodluck to everyone playing against Liverpool for the rest of the season, I’m convinced they announced Klopp’s departure to guarantee a 12th man in every game.’
Norra Wils posted: We were cheated. ‘I don’t generally believe in corruption in football, but we’ve had 2 penalties denied today. It’s an actual joke
Another fan said: ‘It’s Anfield. It’s Klopp’s farewell. Not surprised.’
