Nigerians on social media have expressed their anger over the arrest of a Nigerian student, Aminu Muhammad by the First Lady, Aisha Buhari.
Aminu Adamu, a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, is in detention for commenting on Aisha’s weight gain.
In June 2022, the undergraduate tweeted: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” (The mother has got fatter by eating masses’ money).

The post, which suggests President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife benefits from alleged corrupt practices, generated many reactions.
Aminu’s friends said the tweet was in protest of the eight-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Popular skit maker Debo Adebayo, aka Mr Macaroni, called out the First Lady, stating that she should go to court rather than take the law into her hands.
“Madam First Lady, you are not God!!! If you have any grievance whatsoever, go to court!!!
“You are not bigger than the Citizens of Nigeria, neither are you bigger than the Law!!
“You should use your power to serve the people, not oppress them!! Free Aminu!!!”
Another user @AbdulMahmud01 said; “Reading the report of how Aisha Buhari personally supervised the brutal assaults of two citizens, G.O had to search memory for a parallel in history. No First Lady has ever done what Aisha is alleged to have done. But, there’s a parallel: personage of power abusing power.”
@UchePOkoye added; “Guilty conscience was the reason why First Lady reacted the way she did against Aminu.”
@Elkrosmediahub opined; “You think what the First Lady is allegedly doing to that student is mean and sheer power drunkenness? Pray the wife of Bobo Chicago doesn’t get to that seat. You will feel the full power of the First Lady.
“I mean, she isn’t even there yet, but she flew our presidential jet.”
@SavvyRinu: “APC has turned Nigeria into a dictatorship where citizens are arrested for criticizing the First Lady.
“Aminu Mohammed must be released immediately!
“If Aisha Buhari was defamed, she should go to court, not resort to using state institutions to perpetuate brutality!”
@harrisonJNIOR: “They arrested someone for trolling the First Lady with a tweet, now the whole twitter is trolling her lol.”
