Asiya-Balaraba decided to split off from her husband based on her being “fed up” with the marriage.
Sources said she prayed to the court to apply the Islamic principles of khul’i to dissolve the marriage even as her husband insisted that he does not want the union to end as he still loves his wife and sought the court’s indulgence for more time to explore ways of getting his wife to change her mind.
The judge, it was gathered, thereafter adjourned the matter to January 5 for ruling and told the husband to use the space between the time for ruling to seek a way of reaching an amicable settlement with his estranged wife.
Sources close to the couple and familiar with the development said their issues started some years back.
The husband, it was gathered, was accused by the first family of using his position to enrich himself, an allegation he had severally denied.
