The Osun State government has directed the former Governor of the State, Gboyega Oyetola, his wife, Hajia Kafayat Oyetola, and other public servants, to immediately return various vehicles worth N2.9billion that are currently illegally in their possession, a month after they left office.
This was according to a release by Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who noted that a report submitted by the State Chairman of the Asset Recovery Committee, Dr B.T. Salami, confirmed that Oyetola alone had 11 vehicles ranging from Lexus Jeeps to Toyota Prado jeeps and various models of expensive vehicles of the state government, in his possession.
Meanwhile, the former governor’s wife, Kafayat, also had several government vehicles in her possession.
It was also claimed that the state’s former Deputy Governor had more than seven government vehicles in his custody without lawful justification.
The statement reads in part: “The Assets Recovery Panel of the Osun State Government has directed former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, his wife, Hajia Kafayat Oyetola and other former appointees to immediately return assorted vehicles valued at N2.9 billion presently illegally in their possession.
“The former officials had gone away with various models of vehicles without any legal basis for such action. As at today, there is no law that authorises any elected or appointed officials to go with state vehicles after completing their tenure of office.”
