*Charges new party leaders to select the most capable as president in 2023
A civic group, Identify the Right Leader Initiative (ITRL) has urged the newly elected leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to make renewed commitment to identifying and supporting the best leaders for elective positions in the country.
This comes following the successful conduct of the APC extraordinary convention on March 26th which produced new set of executives to pilot the affairs of the party.

According to the statement, the new party chiefs must take serious the need to compensate merits, excellence, and integrity as the basis for candidates’ selection ahead of the elections.
ITRL also stressed that the new party leaders must place much emphasis on rebuilding the APC for better service delivery on the basis of its progressive ideals which endeared it to Nigerian voters.

“While we wish the newly elected APC leaders a successful tenure in office, we align ourselves with the overwhelming majority of Nigerian voters who want the APC to select only the best candidates to fly it flags. This is the only commitment the party needs to make.
“This shouldn’t be a tall order as the nation is in dear need of competent leaders with enviable records and intimidating credentials that can move the country forward,” the statement read further.
“We wish to repeat our previous calls that the APC should give its presidential ticket to the person with the best credentials and public service performance records. Also more importantly, someone who embodies the ideals and fundamental principles on which the APC was founded,” Okesanjo said.
“The party leaders also need to consider leaders with high emotional intelligence and capacity to solve the nation’s socio-economic and security challenges,” ITRL noted.
The group thanked President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for their leadership by example which demonstrated a largely rancor free convention.
The newly elected APC Excos are Abdullahi Adamu (National Chairman), Iyiola Omisore (National Secretary), Abubakar Kyari (Deputy National Chairman, North), Emma Eneukwu (Deputy National Chairman, South), Ahmed El-Marzuk (National Legal Adviser), Betta Edu (National Women Leader), Felix Morka (National Publicity Secretary), Dayo Israel (National Youth Leader) and others.
