In a candid conversation on the Tea With Tay podcast, renowned Afrobeats artiste, Mayorkun recounted the pivotal moment that ignited his musical career.
Hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, popularly known as Taymesan, the podcast delved into Mayorkun’s journey from a bank employee to a chart-topping musician.
The famous artiste revealed that in 2016, while still working at a bank, he stumbled upon a cover video showcasing his freestyle skills with a keyboard.
Facing limited phone storage, he initially considered deleting the video but instead decided to share it on Twitter. This spontaneous decision would prove to be the turning point in his life.
The video as learned by Quest Times, quickly gained traction, reaching the ears of none other than Davido, the award-winning Afrobeats star.
Not only did Davido appreciate the video, but he also extended a follow-up to Mayorkun on Twitter, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Mayorkun’s serendipitous upload led to a record deal with DMW Records, Davido’s label, catapulting him into the spotlight.
Recalling the pivotal moment, Mayorkun shared, “One of my mum’s friends gave me an iPhone 6 with a small memory size, and I had that video on it and wanted to delete it to free up some space. Something told me to put it on Twitter, and at least, e go dey Twitter if e no dey your phone. I posted it and noticed my phone buzzing inside the bank wey I dey vex. It was one weekend I went to ACCA classes. Davido liked and followed.”
