*Accuses principal of cover-up
Just like the viral story of Sylvester Oromoni, the late 12-year-old student of Dowen College, a distraught mother has called out the management of Federal Government College Lagos, Ijanikin, over the alleged maltreatment of her son.
The woman identified simply as Mrs Joy alleged that her son who is in SS1 was beaten to a stupor by some senior students in the company of one “Kelechi Ehidom”, who according to her, spearheaded the attack.
Mrs Joy in a letter forwarded to the school principal, which was seen by Quest Times, narrated how the incident happened.

“On Saturday 12th March 2022, I visited my son Chidubem and I was stunned that he had several injuries inflicted on different parts of his body. When I inquired further, he told me that on Saturday 5th of March 2022, one senior called Kelechi Ehidom and some boys came to my son’s hostel and commanded my son to follow him to his room “8” Jaja hostel.
“On getting to Kelechi’s hostel, Kelechi accused my son of stealing his Gioni GSM phone and when my son tried to express his innocence, Kelechi decided to beat him mercilessly with a belt and cane wherein he sustained so much injuries, deep cuts on his legs, hands and violent marks around his neck.
“As the beating heightened, being backed with so much cruelty, my son fell down and started shaking profusely. At this point, Kelechi’s brother Chinomso started begging Kelechi to stop the beating but Kelechi continued up to the point that my son lost consciousness and also bled through his nostrils.
“Chinomso Ehidom (Kelechi’s brother) informed my son that he was resuscitated the moment they poured water on him.
“My son could recall that while he was helplessly lying on the floor, a footstep was advancing towards the room, and Kelechi in a bid to conceal his wicked deeds dragged my son to the box room and hid him behind those boxes as he simultaneously switched off the light.
“The footsteps that they all heard later turned out to be that of Mr Tosin (one of the house masters).
“Mr Tosin walked into the hostel and inquired if there was any problem but Kelechi’s response seemed not to be satisfactory to him which prompted Mr Tosin to move around the hostel while flashing his torchlight and in the process my son was found on the floor of the box room.
“Mr Tosin took my son to the sick bay for medical attention.
“I noticed that whilst we were in the school premises, my son could not tell me all that happened to him in detail till I assured him that I would not allow him to return to the school anymore. It was at this point he told me how Kelechi had warned him countless times not to mention his name to the school authorities, else he would take his life and that he should not dare him because he is a cult boy.
“That he also warned him sternly not to reveal his experiences to the school’s disciplinary body.
“My son also told me that he was gripped with fear by all the warnings of Kelechi when he was before the disciplinary body of the school and could not let them into his ordeal in the hands of Kelechi due to the raging threat to take his life. He loosened up after I assured him he won’t return to the school.
“I have taken steps to report the matter to the police for I cannot fold my arms and watch cultists in your school take away my son’s life. I see that the school is a haven of cultists, who are terrorising fellow students.
“Right now, my son is groaning in pain all over his body and lives in fear of the unknown. I cannot assess the degree of his ordeal but I have taken him to the general hospital for examination and treatment.
“I implore the authorities to take speedy action as I have reported this incident to the police.
“If the school fails to give this issue the prompt attention it deserves, I shall make sure this incident goes viral and also take steps to institute an action on negligence against the school as well as prosecute Kelechi for attempted murder.
“A stitch in time saves nine,” the letter read.
Chidubem’s mother also accused the principal of covering up the case after the latter promised to expel the alleged perpetrator, but to her amazement, she found out that the suspect (Kelechi) is still being allowed to come to school as a day student.
“Good evening ma, I just got back from Federal Government College Ijanikin tonight.
“Ma, I was surprised to see and hear students calling someone Asian burger, (Kelechi Ehidom), the same boy you told me that has been expelled by the school authority.
“Remember the truce between us and you made me believe that there is utmost good faith in the whole process.
“Please ma, remember that justice is a two-way thing and I expect you to be an unbiased umpire.
“Kelechi’s continued stay in that school under your administration will only make the school an accessory after the fact. Kelechi’s WAEC centre will prove the above fact,” another letter written to the school principal by Mrs Joy, read.
In an attempt to unravel the mystery behind the saga, Quest Times contacted the school principal (Mrs Tofunmi Akamo) to give her side of the story. However, all efforts to reach her proved abortive at the time of filing this report, as she failed to reply to the message sent by our reporter.
Further findings by Quest Times revealed that the case is currently being investigated by the Nigeria Police who have also summoned the school principal for questioning.
