Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have confirmed the arrest of a man named Benjamin Ezeukwe for organising a fake sales promo.
According to the statement issued by the state Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, the suspect who slashed down the price of Dangote cement, with the intention of scamming Nigerians of their hard earned money, was arrested on October 19th at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in River State.
He further explained that the arrest followed weeks of intensive Investigation by officers of the “Area A” police command in Lagos.
During the operation, the officers found the suspect in possession of incriminating items.
Benjamin noted that the investigation conducted, showed that the suspect was a professional, noting that he had committed multiple additional scams of a similar nature.
Also, a lot of Nigerians have fallen victim to this scam, losing millions of Naira.
The statement partly read, “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Benjamin Ezeukwe aged 28 for masterminding and fleecing hundreds of innocent Nigerians in an elaborate cement-price-slash scam”.
“Claiming a massive price slash. Numerous unsuspecting customers fell prey to the scam, losing millions of Naira to the suspect. An investigation has so far revealed that the suspect had perpetrated several other similar scams The suspect has since been arraigned”.
“Benjamin was arrested on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State following weeks of intensive investigation by officers of Area A Command of the State Command”.
“Investigations also showed that he was in possession of a few gadgets, including a Toyota Avalon, three SIM cards (of which he used 08039691980 for the scam), an iPhone, and a Tecno phone.”
Quest Times further learned that the Management of Dangote Cement Plc had earlier denied reports on some online platforms, that it has embarked on sales promotion and has further adjusted its prices.
Addressing the issue, Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, described the reports as mischievous, malicious, and false, adding that the Management has informed the law enforcement agents, to fish out the perpetrators of the devious and deceptive information, for prosecution.
