Early Life and Education
Chief Hubert Adedeji Ogunde D.Lit. was born on the 10th of July, 1916.
Born in Ososa, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, to Jeremiah Deinbo and Eunice Owotusan Ogunde, Hubert Ogunde’s upbringing was influenced by both Christianity and traditional Yoruba religion.
He attended various schools, including St John School, Ososa, St Peter’s School, Faaji, Lagos, and Wasimi African School, where he completed his education in 1932.
Career
Ogunde’s journey into performance arts began during his elementary school days as a member of Egun Alarinjo. After completing his education, he worked as a pupil-teacher at St. John’s School and served as a church choirmaster and organist.
His career took a new direction when he joined the Nigerian police force in 1941 and later formed an amateur drama group, the African Music Research Party, in Lagos in 1945.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ogunde wrote over 50 plays, incorporating dramatic action, dance, and music to reflect the political and social realities of the time.
