The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma SAN, over the subpar state of the institution’s facilities.
In his stern address, Wike criticized Professor Chiroma for alleged financial mismanagement and failure to enhance the infrastructure at the Law School.
Wike remarked, “I am highly disappointed. Look at the money that was made available to you, you were not able to make use of the funds to upgrade the Law School. Money was budgeted for you to ensure you don’t have to run back to the federal government asking for funds to run the school’s activities.”
He went on to express his disappointment at the apparent misuse of allocated funds, saying, “We would have expected you to use the funds provided to run the school and improve its facilities. But you failed woefully to do so.”
Wike who recently visited the school, expressed his shock and dissatisfaction with its current state, deeming it “unacceptable.”
He questioned how Professor Chiroma could hold the position of DG without the ability to maintain basic infrastructure, saying, “Now you have been given the position of DG in charge of something as important as the Nigerian Law School. Yet you cannot even maintain the school facilities. What is going on?”
These criticisms arise amid growing concerns about the leadership and management of the Nigerian Law School during Professor Chiroma’s tenure. Stakeholders have accused him of neglecting the welfare and needs of law students during his time in office.
While Wike did not specify the particular campus he was addressing, it’s worth noting that during his governorship, Rivers State funded the construction and establishment of the Port Harcourt Campus.
