Former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, shared his reasons for discouraging the popular trend of Nigerians leaving the country, known as ‘Japa.’
Amaechi emphasized that remaining in Nigeria could open doors to political roles, urging the youth to strive for decision-making positions, especially in the nation’s economy.
Speaking on an Arise Television programme on Saturday, Amaechi highlighted that opting for ‘Japa’ might limit individuals to conventional 9 to 5 jobs.
He urged Nigerians to pursue opportunities within the country, emphasizing that political offices often present unexpected chances for growth.
Quest Times further reports that the former Rivers State governor, expressed his candid nature, attributing it to his fear of God.
He stressed the importance of honesty, stating, “I choose to be honest all my life. I don’t want to be politically correct and if diplomacy means lying, then I won’t lie.”
Refusing to discuss his political future, Amaechi asserted that his commitment to truth and honesty differentiates him from other elites and politicians.
He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2022 and, despite a bid for the presidential primary, lost to Bola Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress.
