The Bodija Estate Residents Association in Ibadan revealed on Wednesday that approximately 10 persons are still unaccounted for, following the tragic explosion on January 17.
As recalled by Quest Times, the incident claimed five lives, left 77 individuals with various injuries, and damaged 58 houses on Dejo Oyelese street in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde presented a preliminary report on the explosion to President Bola Tinubu over the weekend.
The Association’s President, Muyiwa Bamgbose, shared concerns during a press briefing, stating, “I think it is now more towards eight and nine persons now, or even 10, whom those in the neighbourhood have talked about.”
He explained that efforts were made to provide accurate information by mapping the street and accounting for residents house by house.
Also, Bamgbose emphasized, “If the person was seen yesterday and was not seen today or you can’t find him again, then you need to get worried. But I believe it’s nearer 10 now.”
The Bodija Estate Residents Association (BERA), representing all communities in Bodija, called for extensive assistance to help the victims rebuild their lives, stressing the continuous care and support needed for those whose lives were unexpectedly altered by the incident.
Moreso, the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party extended condolences to Governor Makinde and the affected families during their visit on Wednesday.
Senator Adolphus Wabara, the chairman of the BoT, applauded Makinde’s prompt response and engineering expertise in directing structural integrity tests for approximately 230 buildings in the affected area.
Wabara urged a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.
Governor Makinde, in response, appreciated the support and pledged commitment to the unity of the PDP, expressing gratitude for the encouragement received during these challenging times.
