Obiajulu Uja, from Enugu State’s Oji-River Local Government Area, has been named as the anti-Tinubu passenger arrested on Friday at the Abuja Airport by Ibom Air.
Barr. Ejike Ugwu, the arrested passenger’s lawyer, who revealed his name, stated that his client is not in a good mental state.
Uja was carried off the aircraft and arrested while declaring that President-elect Bola Tinubu should not be sworn in.
Ugwu, while speaking to Journalists said he was at the Airport Police Division to see the suspect, but the police were yet to provide him (the suspect) with medical care despite his bad state.
“Obiajulu is not in the right state of mind before he boarded the flight. He was chased away from a hotel in Abuja because of his mental state.
“He even booked three different flights for the Lagos trip. He booked Aero, Dana and Ibom Air. He had the three tickets for the same trip. So, there is no doubt that he is mentally challenged,” Ugwu said.
He added, “As I speak to you, both the IPO handling the case and the DPO of the Police Division are nowhere to be found. And the suspect’s legs are all swollen now because of the several beatings he received at the Airport. He is critically sick right now.”
Uja was on Friday evening carried off an Abuja to Lagos flight.
The middle-aged lone protester was said to have announced that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, must never be sworn in as president on May 29.
In the viral video that made the rounds on Saturday, it took the efforts of no fewer than six airport security officers to evacuate him after holding up the aircraft for more than an hour, as the 6pm flight had yet to move as of 7pm.
The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command while confirming the arrest said he would be arraigned in court on Monday.
The Investigating Police Officer, Benson Okoh, told journalists on Saturday evening that the citizen, Obiajulu Uja, would be charged with criminal intimidation and public disturbance as he appear before the court on Monday, April 3rd, 2023.
“He’s with us, I was trying to confirm with the PPRO. However, he’ll be charged to court on Monday for criminal intimidation and inciting public disturbance,” Okoh added.
