The Coroner’s Inquest into the untimely demise of the Nigerian music sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, commenced its proceedings on Friday at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.
During this initial session, journalists were unexpectedly denied access to the courtroom, with no official explanation provided for this restriction.
According to Channels Television, Magistrate Taofikat Adedayo Shotobi, overseeing the inquest, informed the involved parties that the day’s agenda was to establish the procedures for presenting evidence. The presentation of evidence is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 13.
Mrs. Funmi Falana, representing Mohbad’s family, along with other legal representatives present at the inquest, expressed their commitment to bringing witnesses forward to ensure that justice is served in this matter.
The legal proceedings were set into motion following a letter dated September 18th, 2023, from the law firm of Falana & Falana Chamber.
The letter addressed to the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, urged an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding what was described as the “very tragic” and “mysterious” death of the late Mohbad.
In response to the law firm’s request, Magistrate Shotobi, acting on directives from the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada, initiated the inquest. This decision aligns with the provisions outlined in Section 14 & 15 of the CORONER’S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The passing of the acclaimed Afrobeats artist, Mohbad, occurred approximately two weeks ago, leaving a void in the music world at the young age of 27.
