In a recent development, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, made an attempt on Monday morning to gain unauthorized entry into the personal office of Governor Godwin Obaseki, accompanied by his security aides.
This incident follows a backdrop of previous tensions between both men which led to the disbandment of the deputy governor’s media crew and also relocation of his office from the Government House Complex.
Shaibu arrived at the Governor’s Office on Dennis Osadebey Avenue during the early hours of Monday morning, seeking to confront the governor. However, he was informed that the governor was not present in his office at the time. Despite this, Shaibu insisted on accessing the Governor’s personal office.

Security personnel on duty repeatedly requested that he return and make arrangements to meet with the governor through proper channels. Nevertheless, Shaibu persisted in attempting to force his way through the gate, leading to a public disturbance.
This incident is the latest development in an ongoing conflict between the governor and his deputy, with the deputy governor reportedly harboring ambitions of contesting the Edo State governorship in the upcoming 2024 elections.
