Kano has witnessed a resurgence of protests following the Appeal Court’s decision to remove Governor Abba Yusuf from office.
Demonstrators, undeterred by previous police interventions, voiced their discontent in Hausa, proclaiming “We will not accept it,” “Kano belongs to Abba,” and other sentiments.
The Appeal Court’s confirmation of the tribunal’s verdict, which nullified 165,663 votes for Yusuf due to lack of INEC signatures, led to a reduction in the governor’s votes to 853,939.
Despite Yusuf’s appeal and insistence on the injustice of the decision, the court ruled in favor of his APC rival, Nasir Ganuwa, whose votes remained intact at 890,705.
Protesters, standing firm against security attempts to disperse them, echoed their demand for justice, claiming that “Our mandate must be restored.”
