Gunmen have killed Mr. Alaba Abe, a key figure in Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s campaign team, adding a dark twist to the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election.
Mr. Abe, popularly known as “Excel,” played a pivotal role as a ward campaign coordinator during Governor Aiyedatiwa’s successful bid in the recent APC governorship primary in the state.
Tragically, his life was cut short in a disturbing act of violence in Supare Akoko, Akoko South-West Area, on Saturday evening.
The assailants struck just days after the conclusion of the APC governorship primary across all 18 local government areas of the state.
Mr. Abe, who also served as the Returning Officer for the party’s primary in Ward 10, fell victim to the attack outside his residence at around 9 pm.
Confirming the incident, Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, stated, “The command is aware of the incident at Supare; investigation is ongoing to unravel all that happened.”
The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council denounced the act and called for a thorough investigation by security agencies to apprehend those responsible.
Expressing his dismay, Mr. Alex Kalejaiye, the Publicity Secretary of the Ondo APC, lamented the loss, saying, “It is very sad and unfortunate that one of our party men was killed, but we only read about it on social media.
“The party can’t make any statement until it is properly briefed by the chairman of the local government of the deceased. We can’t be reacting to social media information,” Kalejaiye said.
