According to multiple sources, the Ondo State House of Assembly may declare declaring Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor due to the Akeredolu’s prolonged absence caused by ill health.
Sources within the Assembly have disclosed that a decision on Governor Akeredolu’s continued nonattendance may be reached during today’s session, November 28, 2023. This initiative aligns with agreements allegedly forged during a recent meeting between Assembly members and President Bola Tinubu, which took place last Friday.
According to an insider, “The House plans to sit on Tuesday and Aiyedatiwa may be declared acting governor during the sitting. This is part of the outcome of the meeting with President Tinubu.”
When questioned about the matter, Speaker Olamide Oladiji mentioned being in a meeting and deferred confirmation on the session’s status until after their discussions.
“I will let you know whether the meeting will be held tomorrow because we are at a meeting now; after the meeting, I will let you know,” the Speaker told PUNCH.
The Assembly’s previous intent to impeach the deputy, reportedly due to alleged gross misconduct, has seemingly been set aside following discussions with President Tinubu. Aiyedatiwa, responding to recent events, expressed his commitment to moving past the issues and fostering collaboration with all stakeholders.
