Police operatives in Katsina foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescued the victims, and recovered one operational motorcycle from suspected bandits in the state.
The incident unfolded along Baure Village road in Kankara LGA around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, according to ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command.
Sadiq stated that the intervention came after the Kankara Police Divisional Headquarters received a distress call about suspected armed bandits attacking motorists with the intent to abduct them.
“The police intervened after the Kankara Police Divisional Headquarters received a report that some suspected armed bandits had attacked motorists with the intent to kidnap them,” he said.
“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Kankara, CSP Hassan Musa, mobilised a team of operatives to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel, according to the statement.”
During the operation, the police successfully repelled the attack and rescued one individual who had been taken captive by the bandits before their arrival.
Commending the officers for their bravery, dedication, and professionalism, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, the Commissioner of Police in the state, assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He urged the public to report anyone observed with a gunshot wound, as some of the suspects managed to escape with injuries sustained during the shootout.
