Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a strong warning against the impersonation of members listed on a purported fake caretaker committee roster for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor categorically denounced the list as ‘counterfeit and misleading’, sparking concerns over potential discord within the party.
Following a crucial meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Governor Fubara sought to clarify the situation and address the growing apprehension surrounding the disputed list.
In a statement released by Nelson Chukwudi, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the discussions reaffirmed previous decisions made in a gathering involving the NWC, the Board of Trustees, and the PDP Governors’ Forum in March regarding the authenticity of the caretaker committee members.
A pivotal document in resolving the controversy emerged in the form of a letter from the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon Umar Bature, dated March 27, 2024.
Addressed to Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Rivers State Caretaker Committee of the PDP, this correspondence outlined the definitive resolution on the matter, establishing the list of legitimate caretaker committee members and invalidating the disputed version circulating online and in the press.
Governor Fubara minced no words in cautioning against the impersonation of committee positions, warning that individuals found parading themselves based on the disputed list at any PDP office would face arrest for ‘forgery and impersonation’.
