Buga crooner, Kizz Daniel, has been arrested in Tanzania after failing to show up for a concert he was billed to headline.
Early Monday, footage emerged of furious fans destroying the stage and venue of a Kizz Daniel show in Tanzania, after the singer was nowhere to be found for his stage performance.
Fans reportedly paid as much as $5,000 for table tickets to watch the Nigerian perform, but had to wait an entire night for a performance that was not to be.
In videos posted on social media, Kizz Daniel is being marched to a police van as a fan shouts: “You’ve caused damage to this country, you must go in for it!”
The Nigerian singer has back-to-back, danceable hits to his name and has become something of a household name across Africa.
He has also been repeatedly labelled snobbish and “difficult to deal with” in Nigeria’s celebrity/entertainment circles.
According to the promoter of the show, Kizz Daniel was begged and begged to show up but refused to do so. “He (Kizz Daniel) said the Airline didn’t bring his bag which has his gold chain and that he cannot perform without his gold chain on his neck,” he said.
Here’s an apology letter from the consultancy that put the concert together:
Latest reports say the star has been set free.
According to the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri, “KD has been released. His legal team will, however, report back to the police tomorrow while he will subsequently return to Nigeria.”
