In a series of unfortunate incidents on Monday, at least four individuals lost their lives in separate accidents across Lagos State.
Quest Times reports that at the Dantata bus stop along the Badagry Expressway, a military man, his wife, and a motorcycle rider met a tragic end.
According to Babatunde Farinloye, the Lagos State Sector Commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps who confirmed one of the accidents, the motorcycle rider collided with a private truck while attempting to escape area boys seeking money.
“The accident happened at the Dantata bus stop involving a military man, his wife and the bike rider who died on the spot. According to an eyewitness, the bike man was trying to ram into a private truck that was trying to run away from area boys who wanted to collect money,” he said.
Farinloye added that the military man’s body was taken to the Ojo Cantonment Medical Rescue Centre, while the motorcycle rider was conveyed to the Badagry General Hospital Mortuary.
Also, videos shared on the official Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) handle depicted the aftermath of the accidents, revealing damaged windscreens of vehicles involved.
Speaking with newsmen, Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer for LASTMA, confirmed another incident around 9:00 am involving a Toyota Verso and a tricycle with fatal consequences.
He stated that the collision occurred in the Abule-Egba area, resulting in the tricycle rider’s immediate demise, while the scene was swiftly cleared by authorities to avoid traffic disruptions.
“It was the Federal Road Safety Corps that carried the three dead bodies away from that area. Immediately the accident happened, our men contacted policemen from that area and they provided adequate security immediately,” he said.
Moreover, Taofiq emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and responsible driving, urging motorists to abstain from alcohol consumption while driving.
Additionally, he advised against motorcycles driving on one-way routes to prevent accidents, especially as the year gradually comes to an end.
