Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, arrived at Alaba International Market in Lagos State on Saturday to raucous applause from his thronging supporters.
Earlier in the day, some of his fans were attacked by hoodlums in the market.
Obi went to the market before attending a town hall and campaign rally at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
“We just arrived at the Alaba International market to an awesome reception. We’re pondering what the rally will be like. LP is finishing strong. Salute to all Obidients and the Nigerian Youths,” he tweeted.
Obi arrived at Alaba International Market at 11 a.m., his first visit in Lagos. He is slated to address his supporters first, followed by a town hall and, ultimately, a campaign rally at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
The LP candidate stated that he has traveled around the country and is more aware of the issues than ever before, urging traders and their families to hold him accountable.
According to him, the market was constructed by hardworking individuals, and the government has done nothing to develop the market since then. He promised to return as President to handle all of the concerns plaguing the area.
Obi advised his supporters not to be intimidated by rumors that a vote for him would have severe effects for them.
He promised to stand with them no matter what, since Nigeria, he believes, belongs to all.
Also present at the event is the LP governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
After meeting with Alaba Market traders, Obi was inundated by the surging crowd, making it difficult for him to make his way out.
Security officers were overwhelmed as the traders were insistent on escorting the presidential candidate to the highway from within the market where the rally was held, a distance of about three kilometres.
