The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has begun searching for an unidentified female motorist with number plate FST 670 YF, for allegedly discarding waste from the window of her car onto the road.
A statement was released by LAWMA via its social media page X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.
Quest Times gathered that the incident occurred at Adeniyi Jones junction inwards Aromire, in the Ikeja axis of Lagos State.
The statement further noted that when the motorist threw the waste from her window, an effort was made to make the woman pick up the waste but it proved abortive because she drove off.
The statement partly reads, “A woman driving a yellow car, with number plate FST 670 YF, was sighted this morning at Adeniyi Jones junction inwards Aromire, dropping waste from her car. All efforts to make her pick up the waste proved abortive, as she drove off.”
However, the agency explained that as part of efforts to catch the motorist, it has informed its sister agency, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency to flag her down if seen anywhere in the metropolis.
In addition, the agency disclosed that if found, the woman would be arrested and prosecuted according to the environmental laws of Lagos state.
The statement added, “All LASTMA officials are hereby notified to flag her car down anywhere she is seen. She will be arrested and prosecuted according to the environmental laws of the state”.
LAWMA further emphasized that all efforts by the state government to maintain a tidy environment will only be possible with the help of residents if they join hands with the government to make it a success.
“We cannot consolidate on the efforts to make the environment cleaner and better when a few individuals are bent on derailing the government’s efforts”.
