Major General Umaru Mallam Mohammed, convicted on October 4th, 2023, of 14 out of 18 charges brought against him by the Nigerian Army, has received a seven-year prison sentence from a Special Court Martial.
During the sentencing, Major General James Myam, the President of the Special Court Martial, also ordered the convicted senior officer to repay the Nigerian Army with a total of $1,622,400 (1 million, 622,400 US dollars) and N1,690,000 (1 billion, 690 million Naira).
Although the cumulative sentences amounted to 49 years in prison, the court declared that they would run concurrently, resulting in a final sentence of 7 years.
Myam specified that count one was brought under section 383(1) of the Criminal Code Act Cap c38 law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and punishable under section 390 (7). This charge was also filed pursuant to section 114 of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 2004.

- Count 1: Stealing – 5 years imprisonment, with the order to return a total sum of $1,045,400 to the Nigerian Army.
- Count 2: Stealing – 5 years imprisonment, with a return of $480,000 to the Nigerian Army.

- Count 4: Stealing – 5 years imprisonment, with a return of $35,300 to Nigerian Army Properties.
