Outspoken Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti has raised concerns about the possible existence of cultism within the Nigerian Police Force, calling for legislation to combat the harassment of cultists.
Kuti’s comments come in the wake of the controversial death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, on September 12.
Quest Times learned that while some fans alleged that Mohbad’s death was linked to cultist harassment, Kuti shared his thoughts during an Instagram live chat with his followers, expressing his belief that Mohbad’s death was connected to cult activities.
The youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti also pointed out that cultism is a widespread problem in the Nigerian music industry, extending beyond entertainment and infiltrating various aspects of Nigerian society, including law enforcement agencies.

Kuti emphasized the need to address this issue promptly to protect future generations from its detrimental effects and stressed the urgency of enacting strict legislation to deter cultism and curb intimidation by cultists.
“A nation of cowards! We need a MOHBAD Law against cultist intimidation in all our institutions. Anything short of that is unacceptable!! The National Assembly must undertake this monumental task to protect future generations from this scourge. #MohbadLaw.”
The forty-year-old musician also recalled his time behind bars to illustrate that cultism exists within the police force.
“When I was incarcerated, numerous police officers and their superiors disclosed their various cultist affiliations, assuming I was one of them so they could assist me. Even the police are involved in cultism. Now, we are asking cultists to investigate cultists. #GetTheSax.”
Kuti’s comments have sparked a debate about the issue of cultism in Nigeria and the pressing need to address it.
