Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has again taken legal action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Atiku is reaffirming a prior judgment that called for the release of academic records belonging to his opponent, Bola Tinubu, from Chicago State University (CSU).
He is urging the court to ensure the release of these records by October 3, 2023, in preparation for their use in the Nigerian Supreme Court on October 5.
In a comprehensive 17-page response to Tinubu’s objections, Atiku’s legal team has presented strong arguments to persuade Judge Nancy Maldonado to dismiss Tinubu’s objections and compel CSU to provide the requested documents to Atiku.
Atiku is determined to have Tinubu’s objections completely set aside by the court. If successful, this would mean upholding Magistrate Jeffery T. Gilbert’s original order.
Furthermore, the court would instruct CSU to deliver the required documents by October 2, 2023. A deposition would be scheduled no later than October 3, 2023, to allow time for transcript preparation.
Considering the time zone difference, the court would also mandate that the obtained discovery be sent to Nigeria by October 4, 2023.
Ultimately, the evidence would need to be filed with the Supreme Court no later than October 5, 2023.
