After Bayern Munich’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, Thomas Muller took a sly dig at Lionel Messi and praised Cristiano Ronaldo.
Muller led Bayern to a 2-0 win over PSG in the second leg of their encounter, securing a 3-0 aggregate victory for the German giants.
Despite Messi’s expected influence on PSG’s success, he struggled to make an impact in both legs against Bayern.
Muller attributed this to Bayern’s excellent countervailing tactics, which limited Messi’s ability to create chances and link up with his teammates.
Muller went on to mock Messi’s unproductive display, stating that Bayern always had trouble dealing with Ronaldo when he was at Real Madrid.
Nonetheless, he expressed admiration for Messi’s World Cup performance.
“Against Messi, things always go well at all levels in terms of results,” Muller told Kicker journalist Georg Holzner, via @iMiaSanMia.
“At club level, Cristiano Ronaldo was our problem when he was at Real Madrid. But I have the greatest respect for Messi’s World Cup performance”.
