The family of the POS merchant, Alfa Rafiu Issa, who was accused of spending N280 million that was mistakenly sent to his bank account, has responded to the allegations.
The family stated that they are not fraudsters in their compound, emphasizing that no one can reveal the amount forwarded into the account or how it occurred until the police complete their ongoing investigation.
Alfa Rafiu Issa, from Akuji Compound, Abayawo, Ilorin, is said to have gone on a spending spree after receiving the large sum of money in his bank account and is now in police custody in Lagos.
During an investigation to Akuji Compound, this medium had the opportunity to speak with four members of the family, two males and two females, all of whom requested anonymity.
The men whose one of them is an elder and stakeholder in the compound said, there is none with the details of the matter, claiming that news making rounds are fake and baseless.
They disclosed that Akunji Compound has no record of fraud in the history of Abayawo and Alfa Rafiu happens to be a reserved personality who do not amass wealth for himself and knows nothing than to pray.
According to them, no one has the statement of account including the police to have claimed the exact amount transferred into the account.
They submitted that the incidence is such a surprising and an unfortunate one, stressing that the family is also conducting their own investigation just like the police are conducting theirs.
In the same development, the women who seem like younger sisters to the POS merchant also claimed that their brother is neither a thief nor a fraudster, pointing out that the issue of the money is an opportunity and temptation which anyone could fall into it.
They as well claimed that Alfa Rafiu is a gentle and nice kind of being, praying God to deliver him from the trouble he finds himself at the moment.
Speaking with the Kwara Police PRO, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, he shed light into the matter, saying such money is never an opportunity that the Alfa ought to have contacted the bank for a possible reversal.
The PPRO said the police are not bankers that the amount the bank discloses in a case like this and they realize it’s genuine is what they will also disclose to the public
He urged Nigerians to be law abiding citizens and never personalize anything that do not belong to them.
