Nigerian singer, Paul Okoye of P-Square has said that he paid N70,000 to buy N40,000 as a result of the current Naira scarcity in the country.
The Quest Times reports that following complaints by many Nigerians over the Naira scarcity, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) extended the deadline for the swap of old N200, N500, and N1,000 from January 31 to February 10, but the Supreme Court held that the Federal Government and the CBN must not continue with the deadline pending the determination of a notice in respect of the issue on February 22.
But President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed the CBN to release old N200 notes into circulation to co-exist with new N200 banknotes for 60 days.
However, Paul Okoye expressed shock on his Instagram page, disclosing that he bought Naira today because he needed to pay for a visa fee and he needed to pay in cash.
Okoye as known as Rude Boy, said he bought N40,000 with N70,000 in order to make the payments. The father of 3 expressed his displeasure, as he noted that the country keeps breaking new records.
“Omoh!!! I buy money today!! Just because I have to pay for a certain visa fee in an embassy, and it has to be paid in cash. Jokes apart I bought 40k with 70k Aahhhh!!!!!!! Naija breaking new record,” he said.
