National Hospital patients groan, stranded as resident doctors begin strike

Patients at the National Hospital, Abuja have been left stranded following the nationwide indefinite strike embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

Our Correspondent who visited the on Wednesday, observed that medical activities in the hospital have been partially paralysed.

Some patients and their loved ones who are still in the hospital expressed their distress that the strike is slowly exerting a negative effect on them as only nurses on duty are able to take care of their medical needs.

Some patients were officially discharged as a result of the development to either go home or go to private hospitals where they will get medical attention while others discharged themselves to get the required treatment elsewhere.

Speaking on the issue to THE QUEST TIMES, a patient Magnius James said “I was admitted on Saturday, but the doctor who had been due to see me since yesterday was unable to do so since they are on strike.”

Another patient seen sitting at the passage of the Radiodiagnostic centre described the situation in the hospital as pathetic while seeking the federal government to urgently resolve the crisis so as to help them.

She confirmed that the members of NARD really adhered to the directive as they were absent from the wards and their offices today.
