The National Bureau of Statistics has released data revealing the top ten states with the highest number of internet users in Nigeria, showcasing a significant surge in digital connectivity across the country.
According to the latest statistics from the NBS, as of December 2023, the total number of internet subscribers in the country reached a staggering 163.8 million, indicating substantial growth compared to previous years.
Despite economic challenges such as the removal of subsidies and currency fluctuations, more Nigerians are gaining access to the internet, contributing to this remarkable increase in internet usage nationwide.
In comparison to the previous year, the number of internet users rose from 154.8 million to 163.8 million, marking a notable 1.35 per cent increase. This upward trend signifies a 9.07 per cent growth in internet subscribers within the reviewed period.
Quarter-on-quarter analysis further highlights the continuous growth, with a 1.35 per cent increase in internet users observed in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone.
The top ten states leading in internet usage, as per the NBS data for Q4 2023, are as follows:
- Lagos: 18.9 million internet users
- Ogun: 9.5 million internet users
- Kano: 9 million internet users
- Oyo: 8.4 million internet users
- Kaduna: 7.4 million internet users
- FCT: 5.8 million internet users
- Rivers: 5.6 million internet users
- Adamawa: 5.4 million internet users
- Katsina: 4.6 million internet users
- Delta: 4.4 million internet users
