Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, a former Director of Army Public Relations of the Nigerian Army, is dead.
The retired army officer who died on Thursday in his residence in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, was named the spokesperson of the military arm in February 2018 when Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.) was the Chief of Army Staff.
He was born on 24th December 1970 in Makurdi, Benue State. He hails from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He succeeded Brigadier General Sani Usman (retd.), who had then proceeded to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Plateau.
Until the appointment as DAPR, Chukwu was the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Public Relations (NASPRI) in Lagos State.
“The DAPR wishes to announce with deep regrets, the passing on of Brig Gen JTE Chukwu (Rtd); a former Director Army Public Relations on Thursday, 5 January, 2023 at his residence in FCT, Abuja. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” a release said.
Brigadier General Texas Jude Eze Chukwu was commissioned into the Nigerian Army on 5th June 1992 and posted to the Directorate of Army Public Relations.
The General attended Government Primary School Afikpo formerly in Imo State now Ebonyi State. He attended St Vincent’s Secondary School, Agbogugu in Enugu State and later proceeded to Plateau School of Accountancy and Management Studies as well as Lagos State University Ojo, Badagry Road, Lagos State.
He holds Professional Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Professional Higher Diploma in Public Relations, Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication and Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and International Studies.
The DAPR has attended several military courses at home and abroad. Some of the courses include Young Officers Course, Infantry, Airborne Course, Advance Range Management Course, Junior and Senior Command Staff Course and Military Observer Course, Kenya, among others.
The senior officer has held several Instructional, Command and Staff appointments in the course of his career. Some of the appointments include Battalion Second- in- Command, Officer Commanding, Military Public Information Officer, Staff Officer Grade1 Administration, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Assistant Director Defence Information (Army), Staff Officer Grade 1, Research, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Executive Director Corporate Affairs Nigerian Army Welfare/Guaranteed as well as Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information.
Brigadier General Chukwu is a recipient of many Honours and Awards. These include Forces Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone Medal and Pass Staff Course. He is a Member of the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
