Reactions have started trailing the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, in Ondo, where an unspecified number of worshippers were reportedly killed by suspected gunmen.
Some Nigerian celebrities who reacted to the barbaric act describe it as a “Black Sunday” for the country.
Reacting on his social media handle, Nigerian singer Davido called on God to intervene in Nigeria’s matters.

“Jesus take control …. Pray for Nigeria Rip to all the lost souls #Prayforondo,” the Nigerian singer wrote on Twitter.
On her part, Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham commiserated with the people of Ondo and all the bereaved families while praying for the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable losses.
“My heart goes out to the people of Owo, Ondo state and everyone affected in this tragic incident. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the strength to carry on at this very sad times. My heart is broken.”
“NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT, Federal, State and Local, YOUR PEOPLE ARE DYING!!!!! If dem kill us finish, who will you govern????” Mr Macaroni, a Nigerian skit maker noted in his reaction.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu vowed to hunt down the terrorists that attacked the church.
“I am deeply saddened by the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent people of Owo, worshiping at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Today.
“The vile and satanic attack is a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of the Owo Kingdom who have enjoyed relative peace over the years.
“I commiserate with my people in Owo, particularly families of the those who lost their lives to this ugly and unfortunate attack.
“I extend my condolences to Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye as well as the Catholic Church.
“I urge our people to remain calm and vigilant. Do not take laws into your hands. I have spoken to the heads of the security agencies. I have equally been assured that security operatives would be deployed to monitor and restore normalcy to the Owo kingdom,” Gov Akeredolu said in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olabode.
President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement credited to him by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, equally expressed shock over the attack, saying “darkness will never overcome light”.
Buhari, who mourned the dead, condoled with their families, the Catholic Church, and the Government of Ondo State, charging emergency agencies to swing into action and bring succour to the wounded.
