Twitter users have been left to rue and lament, following the defeats of Nigerians Kamaru Usman and Anthony Joshua on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in their respective sports.
Former UFC welterweight champion, Usman, shockingly lost his belt in the last round, following a knockout from a head kick dished out by Leon Edwards who looked set to be heading for a defeat before the KO.
Reacting to his defeat, Usman promised to be back with vengeance.
He Tweeted, “Champs f$ck up sometimes… but we bounce back and come with vengeance!! #NGHTMR

Boxer Anthony Joshua lost his heavily anticipated rematch against Ukrainian boxer, Oleksandr Usyk to reclaim his unified IBF, IBO, WBA (super) and WBO world heavyweight championship belts.
Following the two major defeats, Nigerians took to Twitter with words of encouragement, with some criticising Usman for not following through with his “strategy”. Others dumped patriotism aside, and went on a trolling spree of both fighters.

@hallaboutafrica Full circle. The “Nightmare from Nigeria” kickboxing star Kamaru Usman in his first UFC fight in 2015 beat Jamaican Leon Edwards. The welterweight champ (pic on right) has never lost, until a few hours ago, to Edwards (pic left)! The sports world is a bit stunned this morning.
@Tosin___ Two combat sports Ls for the Buhari administration in one night. Sad!
@princesirdik I have no doubt Usman will win the 3rd fight
@firstdoktor Sadly, Anthony Joshua and Kamaru Usman both lost their fights to Alexander Usyk and Leon Edwards, respectively. But I know as true champions, they will bounce back sooner than later as they always do.
@ToskyVin Usman did everything perfectly but allowed so much freedom for his opponent at the last gasp for that dirty KO. Two Nigerians lost in one night. Make AJ and Usman relax, they’re still great champions.
@De_SunGoddess Two Nigerians, Usman Kamaru and Anthony Joshua (boxers) both lost their matches yesterday night and the only thing we should be doing right now is encouraging them but I can see some people trolling them. Nigerians really have a long way to go. You want to celebrate with someone
