The Nigerian Navy has responded to a video that has been trending on social media platforms, in which an anonymous member of the crew of the ship MV PACESETTER, claims that the Nigerian Navy ship ‘NNS THUNDER’ was sinking.
The Navy has urged people to completely ignore the footage.
The Navy’s Director of Information, Commodore Ayo Vaughan, queried the ship crew members’ activities, calling them “mischievous, nasty, unpatriotic, and very unwanted as it is capable of putting the families of the Nigerian Navy ship’s personnel in a state of fear.”
In a video they uploaded, a crew member claimed that the ship was in trouble and that their ship had been sent to help.
He also expressed the unpleasant situation of the Nigerian Navy battleship at sea and urged Nigerians to vote for a certain presidential candidate in order to prevent the country from sinking like the ship.
The Navy responded to the video by saying the ship was engaged in operation OBANGAME Express 2023 while at sea, when she was reported to be experiencing water infiltration, and placed a distress call to the Naval Base Warri and other nearby boats.
“The ship sent out a distress call to MNS DELTA, Naval Base Warri as well as other vessels within the vicinity for possible assistance,” said Vaughan.
